Bengaluru Traffic Update: Panthur Main Road to Reopen on Monday

Bengaluru citizens have received positive responses from travel agencies regarding the Panthur Main Road improvement white-topping activities. Now, the white-topping activities on the PAN Park Main Road have been completed, and all the inconveniences have been resolved, while all the road closures and traffic diversions have come to an end.

In reference to the positive feedback from HAL Traffic on social media platform X regarding Panthur Main Road, Traffic BTP HAL Airports has announced the road will be open to the public on Monday, 17 November 2025. The road has become one of the most used and highly demanded roads of the ORR (Outer Ring Road) as it links several tech parks and residential areas and enables the daily migration of thousands of people by vehicles.

BBMP Panathur Road White-Topping: Project Overview

The BBMP is initiating White Topping of Panthur Main Road as a part of the BBMP White Topping further phased citywide initiative to enhance the road. White topping, where a layer of concrete is placed over an asphalt road, is durable, stronger, and more resilient. This technique is used to enhance the quality of a road to last more than a decade with minimum maintenance.

There are significant disruptions and delays to construction, as with any infrastructure work conducted in Bengaluru, related to the White Topping initiative. Commuters simply and easily reported and entered, and experienced significant bumper-to-bumper and anchor traffic across to and at the alternate diversion route to and through the narrow posted internal Lane – Panathur and Kadubeesanahalli diversion route and through their internal diversion route.

Authorities anticipate positive impact with the road reopening after all delays.

Anticipated during diversion, the road is now expected to ease significant stress on the diversion route, now that construction is complete. Panthur Main Road is now expected to enhance and ease the significant road congestion and traffic delays.

People living in Panathur, Balagere, Kadubeesanahalli, and Bellandur should also expect fewer delays, particularly during the morning and evening rush hours.

The white-topped surface should help to remedy potholes and waterlogging during monsoons, problems that had severely impacted the stretch during the latter in the past.

Bengaluru Police Recommend Pay-and-Park System

In a different, yet closely related development, the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) have suggested that major tech parks and private companies along the ORR be permitted to implement a Pay-and-Park system. In an effort to alleviate the traffic congestion in one of the city’s major IT corridors, the proposal has drawn the attention of industry players as well as city planners.

BTP officials stated that the tech parks with free parking are a major contributor to the overabundant use of private and single-occupancy vehicles. With the city of Bengaluru seeing an increase of almost 3,000 vehicles per day, the congestion along the ORR has become an unmanageable situation.

The Pay-and-Park system, officials propose, should discourage employees from using personal vehicles for their daily commutes. Initial estimates indicate that the proposal could motivate at least 10 percent of employees to use alternative transport methods, thus reducing the congestion along the ORR by an estimated 30 percent.

Parking Fee Proposal Following Meetings with Police and Industry

A Proposal for parking fees was tabled during a meeting with the Police and Industry. Notable attendees included Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw and Yulu Co-Founder, RK Misra, who have been advocating for and in favor of sustainable urban mobility in Bengaluru.

Most of the participants of the meeting sought to proffer creative ways to address the ever-increasing traffic crisis in the city. These included:

  • Differentiated parking fees in tech/ business parks.

  • Cash Incentives for employees who use/ opt for ride-sharing.

  • Increased frequency of BMTC (Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation) services on high-demand routes.

  • Encouragement of staggered work schedules in companies.

  • Improvement of cycling infrastructure and micro-mobility.

The proposal represents the growing willingness of the government to envision the packaging of long-term sustainable traffic management solutions instead of band-aid approaches.

Shared Transport and Bus Pooling Under Consideration

The potential partnership of tech companies with Shared Transport Services and the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has been heavily discussed and encouraged.

This project will involve:

  • Business bus pooling for employees in IT

  • Custom BMTC services based on collected employee commuting data in real time

  • Single integration of mobility passes for seamless transfer across services

  • Promotion of subsidized bus passes for employees

BMTC, in collaboration with partner companies, seeks to optimize efficiency with route planning based on employee ingress and egress travel behavior to mitigate the overreliance on solo driving.

Authorities are hopeful that these types of projects will significantly mitigate the congestion of IT hubs, including ORR, Whitefield, Electronic City, and Mahadevapura.

Why Bengaluru Needs Immediate Flow of Traffic Operational Changes

Bengaluru Traffic Crisis, whether it is the congenital defect in the flow of traffic or the new unprecedented levels of congestion, is something that should trigger the need for increased operational changes. Studies of the Traffic Dept. of the City and the Urban Mobility Specialists prompted the collection of the data below.

The City of Bengaluru gains an average of almost three thousand new vehicles every day.

During peak travel times, major arteries that cross the City average less than 15 km/h in travel speed.

ORR Chokes Daily at IT Hub Intersections.

Experts state that with no change in the operational flow of traffic, the City of Bengaluru will be gridlocked on a regular basis. This will directly affect the productivity, air quality, and overall quality of life.

The Residents' Homes Close to the Newly Opened Panthur Main Road Reopening

The recent announcement of Panthur Main Road's reopening has brought relief to many local residents and people who work in the area. Thank you to the BBMP traffic authorities and police for finishing the work before the winter peak and holiday traffic builds up.

People think that the brand new top coating of the road will make travel easier, and, of great consequence, that people will not have to go off their beaten path to travel.

Some residents expressed the need for strategic long-term construction planning to ensure the road remains open in the future to avoid construction-related travel disruptions and deteriorating road quality.

What Will Happen Now that the Road is Reopened

As the road's reopening is slated for November 17, traffic police personnel are expected to be stationed on this section of the road to oversee and control traffic flow in this area to facilitate a seamless road opening. BBMP can also be expected to complete minor works, such as lane delineation, the erection of traffic and regulatory signs, and the installation of additional or improved road lighting in the near future.

In the interim, proposed arrangements involving cost-based parking, a shared traffic-routing system, and enhanced public transit for the area in question are in primary planning and negotiation. If such proposals are enacted, the road will greatly enhance traffic flow in this vital area of the tech sector of the city.

Palam Vihar-Dwarka Metro Phase Set to Launch

The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) is making significant strides in the development of the Palam Vihar to Dwarka metro extension project. Senior officials have indicated that plans are underway to finalize the alignment and locations for this much-anticipated extension, which aims to connect Palam Vihar in Gurugram to Dwarka’s Sector 21.   The project will feature key interchanges: one at the Palam Vihar station connecting with the Gurugram Metro corridor, another at the IECC station of the Airport Express, and a final interchange at the Dwarka Sector 21 metro station. The alignment for the project has been settled, but discussions are ongoing regarding the placement of the last metro station. The decision will hinge on passenger convenience and preferences for connectivity between trains and buses.   With an estimated cost of ₹1,687 crore, the project was approved by the Haryana government in October 2022. Haryana is set to cover ₹1,541 crore of this cost. Once the final alignment is decided, the project will be expedited and sent for Union government approval.   The extension will span 8.4 kilometers, with 5 kilometers running from Palam Vihar to Sector 111 in Gurugram and the remaining 3.4 kilometers extending into Delhi. The route will include seven elevated metro stations: Chauma village, Sector 110-A, Sector 111, Sector 28 in Dwarka, IECC, and Dwarka Sector 21.   The detailed project report outlines that the metro stations will be elevated, with an interchange planned at Rezangla Chowk in Palam Vihar to facilitate connections with the main Gurugram Metro line extending from Huda City Centre to Cyber City via Old Gurugram and Palam Vihar.
